Tampa Free Press: “According to an official email sent to millions of government employees, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) announced Tuesday that federal workers who submit their resignations by February 6 could receive deferred compensation through September 30.”
According to the Email from OPM – it outlines a reformed federal workforce focused on four pillars.
- Return to Office
- Performance culture
- More streamlined and flexible workforce
- Enhanced Standards of conduct
The email states: “If you choose to remain in your current position, we thank you for your renewed focus on serving the American people to the best of your abilities and look forward to working together as part of an improved federal workforce. At this time, we cannot give you full assurance regarding the certainty of your position or agency but should your position be eliminated you will be treated with dignity and will be afforded the protections in place for such positions.”
So it seems federal workers are given the option to leave with 7 months of pay, but if they don’t take that buyout and are terminated anyway due to downsizing, there is no clear answer. A lot of people are going to have some difficult decisions over the next week.
