In a live session on X late last night, Elon Musk said that he talked to President Trump about USAID and “he agreed we should shut it down”.
“It became apparent that it’s not an apple with a worm it in. What we have is just a ball of worms. You’ve got to basically get rid of the whole thing. It’s beyond repair. We’re shutting it down.”
USAID provides foreign aid and humanitarian assistance. Its annual budget is approximately $50B, and it distributes roughly $40B in aid annually.
