Trump Suspends New Foreign Corruption Investigations, Citing National Security
Whitehouse – In a new executive order, President Trump has halted new investigations under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) for at least 180 days, arguing that aggressive enforcement harms U.S. economic and national security interests.
The order mandates a review of current enforcement policies and calls for updated guidelines prioritizing “American interests, American economic competitiveness with respect to other nations, and the efficient use of Federal law enforcement resources.”
The President justified the move by asserting that “overexpansive and unpredictable FCPA enforcement … actively harms American economic competitiveness and, therefore, national security.” The Attorney General will oversee the review and may extend the suspension period if deemed necessary.
